9 Months (almost)

Ian already had his 9-month well check, so we will just pretend he has reached the 9-month milestone, though it isn't for a few more days...

Here are the stats:
Weight:
19 lbs. 9 oz., 25% (how did this happen?!)
Height:
28 1/4", 50%
Head: 17 3/4, 45%

So, our chubby baby is no longer off the charts. And actually, he lost weight since his last appointment. He also hasn't gained more than a pound or so in the last 5 months, and babies typically gain steadily during that period of time. Therefore the Dr. wants Ian to come in next month for a "weight check" to make sure he's doing Okay. She did say Ian looks incredibly healthy, so this is just a precaution. Often larger babies turn into their "actual selves" about 6-9 months, which is probably what Ian is doing. It is very strange to see him below the 50th percentile though.

The pediatrician kept remarking that Ian could do all kinds of things that he "wasn't old enough" to be doing. What a little show-off he is. :) Many of these skill emmerged while we were on our CA trip.

About a month ago, Ian starting giving "high fives". He will do it for strangers and friends alike, and he seems to get a pretty big kick out of it. While in CA, Ian started clapping! When we say "clap, clap, clap" he'll perform his talent. He also likes to clap while he's nursing. I appreciate knowing he likes the meal. He also began to use crawling to explore his surroundings, not just to chase after cell phones. And once he figured that out, he hasn't sat still. Ian also seemed to figure out what "dad" is. While eating dinner with friends one night, he looked at Scott and suddenly began stammering "dad!" with extra staccato on the last "d". Scott and I were thrilled. Ian is also mastering turning off light switches, and can locate and point to switches in the room. He often points to things that he wants, and grunts. (His "pointing" looks like the ASL sign for "k", but with the fingers curled in a little. He always does it like that.) Ian also mimics some of the phrases we say regularly. We think he is brilliant. :)

A few days ago I left Ian in his room while I walked down the hall to put a load of laundry in. I returned no more than 60 seconds later to find he had pulled nearly half his baby wipes out, one at a time. He pulled the rest out while I went and got my camera. :)

That is weird to not see any weight gain, but he seems like he is right on track and looks perfectly healthy to me! And seriously, I don't get babies fascination with baby wipes...Noah does that all the time and it drives me nuts! What a cute little munchkin. :)

I have a rule that before I can get mad at Connor for whatever destruction he has caused, I have to photograph it first. It has helped with my initial temper-losing and I have lots of great messes documented. Which I'm sure will make me laugh in 5-10ish years. :)

He is SO cute. He looks perfectly normal and adorable to me!

Josie LOVES wipes too!! But she likes to eat them. I am so glad that you guys got to go home for Christmas. Ian is healthy and happy. Don't worry about the not growing. Madi was always in the 10th percentile, if she was lucky. The doctors were always reminding me that I needed to feed her. rude.
But she is so healthy and smart. No worries.

Thats a good rule that Liz has! I'm going to have to implement that too. He looks like a healthy, happy little guy who totally keeps you on your toes! Just try and keep the diaper rash ointment out of reach. I made that mistake and that stuff is nearly impossible to get off your child and especially out of their hair!

He is so smart and cute I wouldn't worry about his weight. One thing you have to take into consideration is he is a lot more active now. He's burning more calories. My girls were always in the 5-10th percentile and the doctors just told me as long as they are still on the curve they are o.k.

How fun that he is starting to talk. He is a smartie like his Mom and Dad.

How did that happen? He's just trying to be like mom - long and lean. Clapping while nursing - that's got to be encouraging. He's pretty much a smarty pants. saying dad - I'm very impressed. We have the very same pictures of Eli pulling out wipes. Who doesn't love a good wipe bath?

My kids loved pulling all the wipes out too. lol, now we get the big boxes of wipes from Sams, lol, and Abby can't get them open!!! It is so amazing as they go through stages and change and grow!!! BTW, I love his green blanket!!! Teyla LOVES her pink one!!! I think it is going to end up her blankie, lol, like Abs and Carleigh each have theirs! So Thanks!

Ah don't worry about the percentile--working at the health center we always just bring them in for weight checks if they change which percentile they're around, but if he's this old and acting normal then I wouldn't worry at all. At least you get to know how big he is more often! :)
