Naughty Naughty

Here is photo evidence of Ian's mischief. Thankfully, he hadn't fallen into the vacant space yet, because that is always especially traumatic for him. The blue bottom isn't solid, and has a network of bars underneath it, which becomes a tar pit for little Ian, where he flops around until rescued. While I was taking pictures, Ian was willing to demonstrate how he does it -- I thought he had been slipping his little fingers under the end and prying it up. He actually just yanks on the middle of the sheet and the end flips up. I think we can prevent this by just removing the sheet.... hope it works.

Another solution is to buy Ian a real crib, with a real mattress. This crib is my current favorite and is the only one I have liked consistently. I like that it has really simple lines and is Espresso color (though the picture looks blackish). It is convertible, but that doesn't matter to me. It has great reviews online, but I would love to hear from anyone else who has it. Or anyone who has opinions on this type of crib. What did you look for in crib? What do you love and hate about your own? I figure if we wait nearly a year to purchase a crib, we had better get it right. And that kind of pressure has made this process take months longer.

That looks like a nice crib. We have had two cribs. One was more expensive and had fancy things like "hidden hardeware" and a drawer underneath. The other was got on clearance for $100, and it's actually the one we prefer. The fancy one was SUCH a pain to put together, and since we've moved three times that was enough! That's funny you posted about a crib because I just posted about my boys new beds now that they are out of their cribs.
We took the front slats off to make the cribs a toddler bed and that did extend their use for a few more years, so I'd say it's nice to have convertible.
Take care!!

I LOVE THAT CRIB! I say buy it. I mostly looked for a crib that didn't feel like it was going to fall apart.

That's the kind I would buy, as long as the side goes up and down easily. Scott and you can probably assemble anything in a snap.

We got really lucky and found a crib on clearance for $26 and so far has held up pretty well. (Although Noah does his best to destroy it.) We love the fact that ours converts (really easily) to a toddler bed because then it's still something familiar that they can stay in while they are getting used to having an open side. Hyrum only stayed in that for a few months though before we moved him to a twin. I love the one you have picked out, it looks so pretty! I love the dark color too.

Thanks guys! I really do need that kind of support and feedback on this decision. I am almost ready to do it.

I am glad to hear so many of you used the convertible feature. I figured it was pretty useless if you have a second child... but the transition idea was great, Amelia!

Lesley, I LOVE the crib! I don't know anything about what to look for in a crib either, but I do love the way it looks. You have great taste.

Ooo I love the dark wood. That crib looks similar to the one I would have wanted had I had a bigger spending budget :)

We got ours from Craig's List for $40. Woo!

Look at that smile. He so proud of being naughty. So cute.

That crib is beautiful! Buy it! we got the second cheapest one at Baby-R-Us (I can't remember what brand. I would check, but Eli's asleep). Get something you love and something that will last for a long time. I have a feeling Ian won't be the only baby that will use it.

What a sly little boy you have!

That crib is so cute! I really like it. We never did use our convertible feature...maybe my kids were too close together? Can't wait to see Ian in his new bed!

I love the crib...although Ian seems to be enjoying the pack 'n play just fine

I like the convertible feature on our crib. We didn't use it on Kendra...mostly because her crib was in our office at the time and I didn't want her to play with the computer when she should have been napping (she would have too). We just ended up buying a toddler bed and moved her into Sophie's room at the same time. I say if you like the crib get it.

LOL, Abby does that with it. I hope taking the sheet off works, lol, I know with Abby she still pulled it up anyway!! On the crib, we got ours at IKEA, and it converts to a toddler bed when ready. The other part is you can stain it any color you want. I can show you tomorrow when you come by!! lol, when you get the quick tour!!! That is a beautiful crib!! See ya tomorrow.

I to love the crib. It will last you a long long time and is gender neutral. I personally hate our crib, not for function really but just the style, but I didn't buy it either. I would totally buy it. But until then, get some heavy duty velcro for the mattress in the pack and play to secure the corners down. That is what ours has and there is no way she could pull the mattress up. By the way, did I tell you I LOVE the crib. :) Buy it and decorate it, then send pictures.

I've been dreaming of a crib also. Lexi's still in our pack 'n play and we're all ok with that. So we'll just stick with it for now. I think the spacing of your kids will determine if you use the convertible feature. Either way it looks like a very nice sturdy crib.

Love the crib!! Its adorable! I think a good crib is a wise investment that can pay off a few times over with the wear and tear of raising babies and toddlers. That style is gorgeous and will work well for both a boy and a girl (someday :)

Ian is such a cutie! He's a little explorer! It just goes to show what a smart little cookie he is. :)

Hahaha! What a little rascal!! He's so unbelievably adorable though.

That looks like a great crib! I have no idea what makes a crib great, but still. :-)

Wow!! Not that you need anymore comments on a crib, but I struggled with this decision too. Someone ended up giving us a crib and I'm so glad. Knowing what I know now, I totally would have bought one. I don't think there is a huge difference, just as long as it meets the safety standards. I think the one nice thing is if the side drops so you don't hurt your back bending over and pulling out your little one. By the way, I'm not so sure Ian is going to be a good influence on Erica.

I say... just GET A CRIB. That poor child needs more space! LOL.

We got ours at K-mart, and it was really cheap. But it has held up for over 2 years and we intend to use it until the very last, possible, desperate moment before transitioning to a toddler bed. Just get one that feels stable.

All the bells & whistles some cribs offer are totally unnecessary.
