Happy 31st Birthday Scott!

Scott celebrated his 31st Birthday back in October. He grilled steak for dinner and we had O'Boy Oatmeal cake. Ian made his Daddy a Birthday Badge to wear to work, too. The boys divulged all of Scott's birthday presents the day before, but I have gotten used to the fact that it's nearly impossible to surprise Scott anyway. Plus, I had another surprise up my sleeve for later on that week...

Last year Scott spent a super-lame 30th Birthday all alone in Angola, so I decided to throw him a surprise birthday this year! It took place at the community center near our home the Saturday after his 31st birthday.

Several things throughout the day tipped Scott off (like the fact that I disappeared for several hours that afternoon and was caught in a lie about where I was...) He was starting to ask a lot of questions, but I reassured him it was nothing big -- just a night out together to celebrate his birthday. But while I was driving to the babysitters house he called to say he was tired and would rather stay in that night if that was okay with me. Now I know this man well, and I called his bluff. I told him that was just fine with me, we could just wait until next week... I was so relived when he called right back to say he was just kidding and was excited to go out after all. Phew, I was glad I passed his 'test'!

I blindfolded him for the drive there and tried to take a less-familiar route . But when we passed the Exxon station he said (while blindfolded) "If I had known we were coming this way I would have suggested we drive the car that is low on gas." So I did a few more maneuvers and drove around some residential streets to try to confuse him. Eventually, he didn't know where we were.

SURPRISE!

I had tons of help setting up, decorating and baking treats. I could not have pulled this off by myself and I really appreciate all the great friends who stepped in, and everyone who joined us for the party!

Scott, Jimmy and Ryan singing "Wish They All Could be California Girls" to their ladies.

Childhood favorites, Ninja Turtles and Transformers, played in the background.

I really regret getting a babysitter for the boys. I figured it would be too hard to be a hostess and keep an eye on them, but they would have had a blast dancing and running around with all the kids there. Scott missed celebrating with them too.

Happy Birthday to the best Dad on the planet! I love being your wife and best friend.

Happy (late) birthday Scott! Looks like fun. Paul has told me specifically on a few occasions that he doesn't ever want a surprise party :(. I love the picture of dad and kids at the end.
